Creating a search field in a form that updates a list

I tried following this tutorial to create a textbox search field in my form:

https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/create-a-text-box-on-a-form-that-looks-up-a-value-in-a-table-7ec1b587-d158-4ae3-9d97-80e8119cff7d

But I came out with a few problems and I still don’t understand how I can make it update a list of entries.

I have a database with people, and I’m trying to search by attribute name. The table is called People, and I would like to search for a name and have a list of matches appear below, similar to the image:

Once the user selects a result from the list (not even sure this is possible), they’ll be brought to a form with the selected entries data filled in:

I am not even sure where to begin with this issue as I can’t wrap my head around the way Access works. I’ve used SQL in the past, however with PHP or JSP where I had some flexibility with my functions, but here I ‘m not too sure how any of these features (which seem pretty basic to me) are implemented. If anyone could help push me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
